Conservation Honors Our Past and Strengthens Our Future
Protecting land achieves much more than just eliminating the threats of conversion and development. It can also create opportunities for economic vitality, historical remembrance and cultural understanding while ensuring natural habitat connectivity for people and wildlife. A few of our latest efforts demonstrate these long-term benefits of conservation.
Cultivating a Healthier Tomorrow
As we celebrate National Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Month throughout June, we recognize the work of our many Working Farms Fund partners. This initiative — most recently expanded to Chicago and poised to grow further — permanently protects critically threatened farmland, provides affordable land access and business support to a diverse group of aspiring, next-generation farmers and is helping grow a more resilient local food system.

Honoring Our Shared History, Together
The Conservation Fund has conserved dozens of at-risk Civil Rights history sites across the country, including at the Freedom Riders National Monument in Anniston. That’s why we were honored to help host a special event last month commemorating the 62nd anniversary of the historic Freedom Rides. The bravery and dedication of the Freedom Riders continues to inspire us today.

One Project, Numerous Benefits in Alaska
A key coastal wetland habitat in Alaska is now permanently protected — yielding a plethora of benefits. Migrant waterfowl and shorebirds, as well as salmon and Cook Inlet beluga whales are some of the species that will most benefit from the addition of 309 acres to the Alaska State Parks system within the Kasilof River estuary. Additional benefits will flow as recreational opportunities increase and the local economy is strengthened.
